Kalami is accessed from the main northern highway from Corfu town Kalami beach is signposted from the main road beyond Nissaki and approximately 1 km after Kouloura as you travel north A twisty, well surfaced road takes you through the olive groves, dropping you into a pleasant bay
The exquisitely beautiful bay at Kalami has little in the way of a beach, just a small stretch of white shingle littered with sunbeds and with showers and toilets The stones are sharp, so footwear is advisable, but the sheltered bay is safe for snorkeling The resort has strong romantic and literary connection through the the Durrells - Lawrence and Gerald who had a lovely home here Unfortunately it is also now home to one of the biggest self-catering compounds on Corfu sprawling up the hillside though the owners have planted enough wisteria to hide most of it The coast of Albania sits 2km offshore and the seas get choppy in the channel should you hire a boat, not to mention the dozens of passing cruise boats There are three minimarkets and a couple of tourist shops in the village and many good tavernas On the headland near Kouloura there are a couple of sheltered coves with flat rocks but you need a boat to get to them |
